Go ahead and do the steering box while you have the axle out. Most of the old boxes have wear in the secter shaft bushing and a leaking seal. These old boxes are easy to redo and work great with fresh bushings and lube. I just redid one on a 46 for about $30 for new bushings seal and gaskets.
