You're almost a front end man! About the only three front end parameters there are would be toe, caster and camber. A backyard mechanic can set the toe-in fairly close with a tape measure and the proper procedure.
Camber is seldom addressed on a straight axle because it seldom changes from factory specs and is a specialized procedure to adjust.
Caster can be changed through the use of caster shims. There is probably a shadetree method to do it, but a front end shop could set it right on the nose with no problem.
The only other area would be adjusting the steering box for play, and inspection and replacement of any bum tie rod ends etc.
