I have a 46 chevy one ton truck. Stock rebuilt 54 Chevy 235 with rebuilt Rochester carburetor. Guessing that rear end is low-mid 3:00's-changed out before me.
Running a 5 speed overdrive trans from a 1954 REO truck. Over drive ratio is approximately .8/1. Truck will run 55-60? (no speedo gear on trans) comfortably on the interstate at 2500-2800 rpm.
Carb has been rebuilt several times. Orig carb had 'rochester sticking float blues'. Changed carb from my 235 spare motor.
Truck runs well. Judging by plugs, engine is running consistently rich. Also, base of carb is generally wet. (I have a Carter YF carb, but the linkage setup is completely reversed from the Rochester and I can't figure how to set up).
Is there a more modern carburetor from a later Chevy engine which would bolt up and provide better service and mileage? If Carter YF is ticket, do you have a source for the proper throttle linkage.
Truck is weekly driver, used for material hauling from Winston-Salem, North Carolina to Galax, Virginia. Most miles are highway miles.
