Tiny - since you are doing some testing ahead of time to establish a baseline, how about some performance testing as well?

Get a friend to ride with you with a stop watch, and on the exact same course, run about 5 0-60 (or whatever is the legal limit); and then take an average of the times. This will give you a performance baseline to go with your economy baseline.

And while I remain extremely skeptical, I hope it works out for you.
