When all else fails read the instructions. They tell you not to run the motor to tighten or loosen the chuck. Maybe years of doing that has worn the chuck out. Might be time for a new one. Be sure to remove the cap screw holding the chuck to the gun. I broke mine. (Should have read the instructions.)
