I believe you are referring to the fuel pick-up tube that is attached to the sending unit. Try running a wire through it then blow some carb and choke cleaner spray through it. Of course this is a temporary fix because you need a new sending unit anyway but it should get you running around the yard again. When you order the new sending unit, splurge for the screen for it too.
