Rebuild parts are still available for the old 216's, including some reliability upgrades such as an insert-bearing conversion to replace the babbited rods. I'm doing a tech Tip series on repairing and adjusting the 6V charging system. Big battery cables and clean, tight connections will keep the original electrical system working OK, so if you're willing to do a little preventive maintenance, keep it stock.
