Hate to be a part pooper here but I have a 53 with the side spare and wish I didn't. Looks cool but I have a few issues with it. Namely being on the driver's side is the mistake GM made in my opinion. The extra weight of the tire and mount, plus my weight and I drive alone most of the time put a decided list on the left side. I compensated with 9 leaves on the left and seven on the right at the rear. I also wonder about the safety of it if it was ever used. I hate to have my back to traffic unloading that tire. Having a flat on that side would be scary enough. Early Chevs had the only key locking door on the passenger side for safety reasons so why they put the tire on the driver's side fools me. Also in my case my garage door is narrow and the extra inches in truck width make backing into the garage an experience.If I could find a mint rear fender I would get rid of my side spare in a hurry. That's my opinion but don't let me sway you.
