I have my truck down to the frame and suspension. I used a gasket scraper to get most of the dried muck off. I had planned to use a wire brush on a grinder and get the next layer. Then I wanted to sandblast the rust spots and hard to get places.
While wire brushing I noticed a satin black sheen. I am under the impression from looking under my fenders that someone sprayed something like diesel fule on it to rust proof it. I think it worked pretty well. In any event, I took a rag with some lacquer thinner and it wiped right off.
Does anybody have any suggestions for cleaning this off. I have thought of using the thinner in a metal pan with either a rag or heavy steel wool and rubber gloves of course. My work are would have to be well ventilated or I will push it onto the driveway.
Any other thoughts. I don't think that simple green will cut nearly as well.
