Sorry guys but I have to disagree.
We all know what oil does when it mixes with dirt, it turns to that black gunk that build up on everything. Thinking it will keep moisture away is wrong. It holds it in place. The front crossmember on my 38 was full of the stuff because of the front seal leaking over the years. When we pulled the core support off the support bolts were rusted almost completely through and the crossmember itself was less than paper thin and had to be replaced. The best method by far is keeping the area clean of debris. Do as you wish but if you spray anything that will trap & hold dirt you are asking for trouble.
