Should hold up fine. I can say from first hand experience that lap belts don't feel good, but they're better than nothing at all. Of course the best thing to do is to avoid getting into an accident in the first place, like keeping in mind that the braking system on these old trucks needs a bit more space than a newer car. That's what got me.
