My 14-bolt rear axle came out of a 3/4 ton pickup I think. The ring gear is stamped with "4 89" which I assume means the gear was made in April 1989. No guarantee that the truck is an '89 though. I still need to find out exactly what truck this axle was pulled out of so that I can easily order stuff like brake shoes... you know how those parts counter guys are if you don't have the exact make and model. It is indeed a semi floating axle. Anyone familiar with those "conversion" u-joints? One of the websites I visited mentioned that it was NAPA part #447 but when I searched the NAPA website for that part, it sure wasn't a u-joint. A driveshaft place in San Antonio sells them for about $23. I may just fork over the $300 to have a complete 1350 u-joint style driveshaft fabricated and then I should never have to worry about anything past the transmission. | | |
