There are exact instructions in the accessory installation manual (if you have one of those). It might not hurt to add another one before the pump, to catch all of that extra crud from the tank before it enters the pump. I'm thinking about doing that this spring, because it doesn't take any time at all for my glass bowl to fill up with rust.
