The thrust bearing is very tight, I did try to slide into the journal but couldn't even get it seated all the way. I don't have a plastigauge available at the moment. I understand the tight fit theory and sanding it to fit, but how tight or oversized is too much? Would it be worth taking the crank and bearing to my machine shop and having them toy with it to get it right? If not, what grit of sand paper would be appropriate for this and what steps do I need to take to get smooth, even sanding on all points of the bearing? Thanks for the input, I do feel a little better about the situation.
