I think it would be great to use your own oak if possible. Oak is certainly, as a hard wood, more durable than pine. There are several woods however more durable than oak or hickory or other hard woods, one is teak another is red wood. While a soft wood cedar is also long lasting. The most durable is cypress from a 70+ year old tree. I still like to local oak choice.
I may use cedar from the billions of cedar trees we have been cutting for 20 years down in the hill country of Texas.
