Do not use resin, resin alone is NOT an adhesive, and in fact doesn't stick very well at all. There are panel bonding adhesives that are designed for fiberglass to metal as well as metal to metal or fiberglass to fiberglass. Of course, "fiberglass" is a laymans term, most of the time these days it is the higher tech SMC (Sheet Moulded Compound) which is a "stamped fiberglass" type product. But even the C5 and C6 Vettes have the inner fenders in front bonded straight to the aluminum frames with no rivits.
And I seem to remember some GM car with SMC skins bonded to a metal shell.....can't remember which one.
Anyway, yeah it will work, but as mentioned before, the glass is thicker than the original sheetmetal skin. How can this work? Picture your door skin being an eigth inch thick, how could you adjust the door in enough to make it flush with the outer body? I am not sure you could do that.
