Check the bore size- - - -a 265 should have a 3 3/4" bore, while 283's were 3 7/8". Also, a 55 model 265 will NOT have a block-mounted oil filter; they used the same remote filter as the 235's. The first V-8 with a block-mounted full flow filter was the 56 model 265. 55 model 265's should have a G or F suffix, at least in the passemger cars. I don't have a reference on the early trucks.
