I bet it wasn't a Chevy engine, the 3.1 was only made as a front drive engine, never for rear drive. Every Rodeo I've ever seen had an Isuzu engine in it, and a freind of mine that built them never saw any GM engines in the plant, either. They also all used Aisin rearends.
