Guess I should have said the ones with the master cyclinder on the frame were both 32 Ford street rods. 1 with power 1 with out. In both cases the master cylinder is lower than the wheels cylinders. The one with out power you need to pump 2-3 times with once....or at least that is how I feel when I drive it.
If your master cylinder is lower than your wheel cylinders (or disk calipers), then you need to install residual valves in your lines (2-psi for disks, 10psi for drums). These will prevent the brake fluid from running out of the wheel cylinders and back into the reservoir.
You are pumping a few times because the lines are empty and need to be refilled.
