Remove the u-joint on back of trans under the ball on tube and maybe the shifter if 4spd and pull out with engine. Just need to pull the two bolts in x-over holding in the bellhouse and the front mount on engine. OR, lift out trans first and then the engine and b/house. I use an eyebolt with washers on end with a cut-out to pass over one of the lugs on shifter ball area of trans. I just pass it down into the opening after removing the shifter, turn it to have washers lift up on the two pins in the tower and use picker to lift it and back away from engine, then lower to floor or roller rack to slide out from under truck. We used to lift the trans' at plant with same type tool all day.
