Hy Henry G, it seems like you have eliminated a lot of things, thats why I think it has something to do with the distributor itself, rather than the wiring to it. We should realize that modern test equipment will read milliamps of current, but that doesn't mean that the cicuit is actually capable of flowing an amp or more. The point plate in the distributor has to move, so it can advance and retard the timing, if my memory is correct there should be a tiny wire attaching it to the distributor body. My other thought was the condition of the wire from the coil to the points, just some more stuff to verify, hope some of it helps.
