Why would you want to convert to 12v with a starting system that turns as fast as yours does? If you want an electronic ignition, a 6v electronic ignition is available from Pertronix. Now, if you want a 12v steereo system or air conditions, that's another matter.
Yes, you need to choke it to start (after pumping the gas pedal a few times and giving it a little throttle). Each one of these old trucks has a slightly different starting ritual.
