The shoehorn goes behind the seal so as not to peel the back, inner, edge of the seal off against the sharp block.I have made them with a piece of banding strap crimped into a short piece of cooper or steel tube. Stager the ends at 2 o'clock and 8 o'clock so as not to get a leak. Make sure your #5 bearing clearance is no more then .002, because even a new seal can't control a lot of oil slash.
