Hope you had a wonder Christmas in Lovely Soquel. Don't know much about your clearance issue but I would steer away from PVC for both stability and durability reasons. I'd be a little concern with the affect the heat from the engine might have on pvc after your stopped. Maybe I'm a little over cautious. I'm sure you can either find or configure something in metal instead that would be a lot more stout.
