If you decide to tackle this job at home, my one suggestion would be not to do it on a work bench or in a vise. Do any hammering or whatever on a solid concrete floor with very solid blocking under the axle ends.
If the pins are going to move at all with a huge hammer and driver, it will only happen if there is zero rebound as the king pin is blasted. It must feel the absolute full, sharp blow of the BFH before it makes up its mind to give up!
