This is kind of a saga but here it goes: My '54's carb was in bad shape when I bought it. I rebuilt it the best I could, but it didn't hold. I ended up buying one off ebay. It was in pretty good shape, except it was all froze up with gunk (varnish?). I tore it down totally and rebuilt it. It ran good for a while but today it began flooding out. I have gas pouring out of the top side of the carb. This is the same problem I was having with the original carb.
I'm not sure where to focus. The float seemed correct when I set it. Someone suggested I back that off a bit. I'm wondering if it may be the accelerator pump sticking.
Any carb experts out there? Or has anyone been through the same issue?

Rick

UPDATE: Thanks guys. The method of pinching off the fuel line to clear the needle valve seems to have done the trick for now. I'm not going to run her again until I get new fuel filters. Since the tank is almost empty now, I'll probably just drain it in hopes of getting at least some gunk out.
