With the transmission still attached to my '54 235, is it reasonable to expect the crankshaft to drop enough to get the upper rear main rope seal installed correctly, per Oly's tech tip, or should I plan on removing the transmission first? Even after loosening the bearing cap(s), I don't see how the crank would drop enough (or any) to get the job done with the tranny still attached.
I've got all the parts and stuff I need to do this and a few other things, so this is the last piece of my planning before I get to it. Thanks for your help.
