If you have a test ammeter put it from the dist term to ground with the points open. It should be no more then 2-2 1/2 amps. I agree if you replace the points & cond. it will work. Do not use 12 volts without a resister & do not leave the ign. on without it running for more then a few seconds. The latest issue of Vintage Trucks has an extensive article on dists. & points.
