Part of my confusion on this post is the statement you made indicating that it isn't the point surfaces proper that are being affected, but the spring or arm that burnt in two.
The point contact surfaces are where the current flow is broken and is made...this is the surface that erodes. The condenser is there to quench the arc at this "switch" and to aid in collapse of the coil primary.
Are your points cooking on the contact surfaces or somewhere else?
