| | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 1,317 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 1,317 | I'm running a slightly modified 6 blade Flex-a-light fan on my 54 truck with the 1" waterpump snout. Summit Automotive has an inexpensive FLX-1615P center-mount-blade fan that works great. To open up the snout hole, use a 1" plastic circle template, scribe a sharp line for the hole and do some hand rat-tail filing. I've experienced NO vibration problems from this modification and my engine runs at thermostat temperature.
The center-mounted blades will give you adequate fan/radiator cleararance as well as clearance to your Harmonic balancer and alt/generator. The rear mounted blade flex fans will present clearance issues.
If by chance you are looking to maintain a stock look, you can disregard the above info. However, if you're interested in improving the cooling on your truck you can't beat the 6 blade.
