Press the gear onto the cam before you install it. There's a danger of doing damage toithe thrust palte, etc., if you try to force it on after the cam is installed. Be sure to put the thrust plate on before installing the gear, though! It's nearly impossible to remove the new gear without damaging it if you forget to put the thrust plate on before installing it!
