I agree with Wrenchbender. The 403 is considered a small block starting around 1976. The 400/455 is a big block with the 455 ending in 1976. I also am tying to decide to build a 1976 455. It has the low compression "J" heads and unwanted intake. The cost of upgrading and rebuilding is a real eye opener. Good luck
