Hey, me too Tiny. I worked for a Chevy dealer years ago & that is the way we did it too, rubber on the glass & then string around the rubber. Two people could install a glass in 5 minutes or less. If I remember some of the windshield gaskets locked into itself, in other words the rubber had a seam that you unlocked with a glass stick, no removable bead. Those had to be installed the way you & I are talking about. Some of the glass gaskets had a removable center bead, like the rear glass, & those could be done either way but was a lot easier with the string method.
