I used one (Carter number 9400s) for over 400,000 miles on a competitors 300 CID engine in an extended wheelbase van. Loaded highway mileage at 70 MPH was about 22 MPG. As to power, the van was our tow vehicle and often pulled a 16 foot tandem trailer with John Deere 950 and bush hog.
