I have a 55 2nd series pickup with a 235 in it. Everything seems to be original. When I bought the truck, it had not run in 2 years, so I drained the oil, pulled the plugs, put some oil in the cylinders, turned it over a couple of times, put the plugs back in and I have it running. My question is: It is smoking pretty bad, but seems to quit after it warms up a little until I give it lots of rpm's. I have not put 3 miles on it since I have started working on it. Will the rings re-seal (if that is the problem) or should I go ahead and plan on rebuilding it. The previous owner said that before, he was driving it and it was not burning any oil. Also my neighbor has a 235 out of a 66 that needs to be rebuilt. My 235 does not have an oil filter assy on it and his does. Should I just rebuild his (I can have it, no $$ ) and use it?
