- What is the year of the engine?
- Does the engine have hydraulic or mechanical lifters?
- Is there a code pressed into the ledge to the rear of where the distributor enters the block?
If it is a 235 with hydraulic lifters, it's most likely a 1953-1962 automobile engine. It's a Blue Flame Six engine and that blue is very much like the Chevy Engine Blue sold in spray cans in most parts stores.
