I have never messed with the rope seal, but hear about what it takes o install one sounds like a pain. I have replaced them wiht the neoprene twice. Once in the vehicle and once during the engine rebuild. With the neoprene it is so easy. I think I messed up on mine the last time though because I have leaks from both sides!
