The screaming may not mean much.
I have a truck, granted with a modern motor, that has 4.11 gears and will easily run 80 mph plus (pulling a loaded trailer). While it has electronic ignition instead of points, internally its just a push rod motor and I doubt turns significantly faster than a good running 235 can.
