I know this deosen't matter now because you do not have a key to turn but, I just read in the 1948-1951 Chevrolet Truck Shop Manual that you have to turn the key (clockwise), stick in the wire into the hole to feel the spring and the TURN THE CYLINDER/KEY CLOCKWISE a little bit more to remove it.
