I ordered a whole gallon and was able to do my frame in two coats and still had about a half gallon left. so, if i was going to to more than just a frame then 2-3 quarts should be plenty. looking back i would have rather used the quarts because they are smaller and if you have left overs you dont have to worry about a whole bunch going bad.
