All you 261 Stovebolters: I need to pick your brains. We are in the process of cleaning parts for a '62 261. The dirt/oil/grease combination has formed a coat that has actually preserved the outside of this engine. This was a West Texas ranch truck and only got washed when it rained, and from the looks of the engine, the oil was not changed much, just more added to make up for the leaks. eek It's incredible.
After cleaning the exhaust manifold, we noticed two small cracks on the outside corners of the two inside "stacks", where the "stack" meets the "pipe". The cracks are about 3/4 inch long. We think we can weld it up and it will be fine. Are these cracks unusual for a 261 or is it common? Has anyone else seen this? :confused:
The bi-metallic spring for the heat-riser is missing. Any idea where we can find one? Any help would be great.
