You can mark TDC on the balancer where it is even if it has spun and figure from that where it needs to be. Just use chalk or a marker then look for the marks with the timing light. Would not run it that way long, it made my front seal leak.
There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it can not be overcome by brute force and ignorance.
