http://www.chicagorivet.com/clincher.htmMy use for this is the windshield wiper arms that run under the cowl vent on my 64. There are two rivets that attach the rotating assembly to the arms. From what I can tell the rivets that were in there were more than pop rivets yet less than solid. They did roll over much like a rivet clincher does when it seats a rivet.
The type of rivet seemed to be full tubular rather than semi-tubular (actually the ones in place were hollow). To make the tool work, you strike it with a hammer or put it in a vise or press. This causes the the head to roll over. It doesn't appear that the shank of the rivet is swelling to seat rather the rolled over tail of the rivet holds it in place.
So, I am trying to replace them with as close to original as possible.
