I have been known to have great hearing but even a deaf person could hear this. Way back when it started I thought it was an engine knock until I opened the hood and heard it coming from the regulator. And as I said the needle jumps with each knock. Again this happens on occasion, not all the time even at idle. Apart from that there is no problem with the electrics.
I will notch up the RPMs a tad however.
