Just out of couriosity Ralph, how much does one have to spend for a bed of Cypress.
I had planned on keeping the bed boards original, i.e., Southern Yellow Pine and painted black. I've been to several hardwood shops, there only a few within a 40 mile radius of me. None carry any softwoods. Not many lumber yards left around here either, they've all been run over by the Big Box stores and ya pretty much have to take what they have on the shelf. One of the hardwood guys said if it was him, he would use White Oak.
Your bed really looks great, that has such a beautiful grain to it and it's gonna stand up against the weather great also. I always thought Cypress was pretty cost prohibitive. How does it machine, isn't it a real resinous wood and I'd always heard it was hard on bits because of the minerals that it absorbed?? And what did you finish it with??
