Like gaffbro says yellow pine was the wood from the factory painted black. But far as the best, I think its more a matter of what you like the best. As long as you use a hard wood and put on a proper finish, it really doesn't matter. Look at all the bed woods out there and pick the one you like best, then go for it. Cecil.........
