I've done this on my 261. FYI, The block fittings are for 1/2"NPT pipe. I used a "remote filter adapter kit". Jegs, Summit, etc... sell these kits for about $35 I think, comes with an aluminum spin-on plate assembly that can be mounted to the firewall, etc.... and a pair of hoses with fittings. They come in 2 styles, one with the hoses coming in from the top, the other with them from the sides.
