I have this 292 sitting in my barn. Also have my 37 Chevy 1/2 ton thats been powered by a modified 261 for 6 years.I'm seriously thinking of pulling the 261 and dropping in a built 292.I did some measuring, the 292 is the same length as a 235/261 without a shortened water pump so its about 2 inches too long, no problem, move the radiator foward. A bigger concern is the rivited crossmsmber that supports the bellhousing on the truck.Do any of you have or seen a 250-292 engine sitting in 37-40 truck? was the crossmember modified for clearance? I'm thinking the bottom of a typical small block clutch housing will foul the crossmember. Perhaps a cast iron small block with the removable inspection pan will clear.
