Finally got the truck back together today and drove it a little. The two barrel seems to give it a little more guts but I have to quilify that. When we took the head off and sent it to the shop it turns out the PO had, apparently, put the wrong valves in the head so I'm not sure how much this was affecting the engine, (if at all), before the head gasket blew. All the valves looked like crispy critters anyway. Also, I still have the original 4 speed trans and rear end in it so, as I'm sure you already know, means it tops out at about 55 mph. It does seem to get up and go quicker from 0 to 55. All and all, since your not talking about a lot of bucks, I'd say it was worth it to put on the two barrel.
