Could somebody tell me what the timing gear in the 228/248 motors are made up of ? I have a hunch that they might be made of steel. I know that many years ago when I worked on some 261s and 235s, the timing gear on the camshaft was made of fiber and the gear on the crankshaft was steel. It used to be that if you got 80000 miles out of the timing gear, it was living on borrowed time !
